I'm not able to reproduce this. Please disable boot splash by changing
SPLASH within /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash to "no", then switch over to
first virtual console by pressing Alt-Ctrl-F1, logon as root and call

shotdown -h now

and report that last messages you'll see. You may also attach the
file /var/log/boot.omsg which should include the last messages near
upto the point when the file system becomes readonly. For the last
you have to enable boot logging by diabling the quiet boot parameter
in /boot/grub/menu.lst, after a reboot the /var/log/boot.omsg includes
the last messages.
