Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.dd if=/dev/zero of=whatever 2.sync 3.wait until you kill dd Actual Results: Sync never stops, until dd is killed. Expected Results: sync should complete in a reasonable amount of time, no matter how busy your disks are.
