Patch V3 for NULL pointer/failed boot

I think I had the right idea, but put it in the wrong place.

After backing out the old patch and applying this one, you then do

make
sudo make modules_install

and reboot to new kernel with vt6655 blacklisted. Once the system is up,

sudo /sbin/modprobe -v vt6655
dmesg

If it does not hang, scroll back through the dmesg output to see if there are
any oops messages.
