http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=597167 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=597167#c0 Summary: Cannot boot from hard disk when installation DVD is inserted Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 5 Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: malv_star@hotmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 SUSE/3.6.3-1.5 Firefox/3.6.3 On reboot, if the system first boots from DVD and then times out and attempts to boot from hard disk, the user receives the message "Boot failed: press a key to retry". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set boot order in BIOS to: FDD, CDROM, HDD 2. Start first stage of install, and enable boot from MBR and disable boot from / 3. Wait for reboot and then select option "Boot From Hard Disk" when shown from the DVD boot menu. Actual Results: User receives the message "Boot failed: press a key to retry". The system then resets a few moments after a key is pressed. Expected Results: The system should boot from HDD and begin the second stage of the installation. Removing the DVD entirely allows the system to boot from the HDD as per normal. It can then be re-inserted to allow the install process to continue. I have labelled this as "major" because to a normal user it appears that the system is un-installable. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
