Well; /sbin/bootchartd is replaced for 'init' in your initrd - unconditionally
when you have it installed. I have no idea why we do that, quite possibly we
really don't need to :-)

If you read the magic:

/lib/mkinitrd/scripts/setup-bootchart.sh

script you will see what goes on there.

Can you try:
- mv init sbin/init
- ln -s sbin/bootchartd init
+ cp -a init sbin/init

in there - and re-run 'mkinitrd' ?

Also, I guess we should fix the IN_INITRD thing; if you are using the code from
git master [ as you should be - ah ! ] ... perhaps you are not.

Did you re-run mkinitrd after installing the new bootchart ? if not - you are
using the old code in your initrd :-) first lets try just running mkinitrd and
re-starting - that is the most obvious explanation.
