Summary: kernel panic on boot with gcc-4.5-compiled kernel
(Attempted to kill init!)

Platform: i586
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3
Status: NEW
Severity: Critical

When installing any kernel on my desktop machine that was compiled after we
introduced gcc 4.5 (around February 18-20), I run into a kernel panic right
when the system tries to boot the kernel.
I currently have this system running with an older kernel and missed to take a
pic of the panic screen, but it says "kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted ti
kill init!" and something with "comm: swapper" in the line before, as well as a
Tainted info with G and D flags, which I guess are standard with every openSUSE

My machine is a Core2 (Conroe) system with an ASUS P5B main board, an NVidia
card and a root partition that is still on reiserfs for hysteric reasons.

I tested with kernel-desktop-2.6.33-3.3.i586.rpm, kernel-default with the same
version (bot from plain Factory repo), and with kernel-pae (some 2.6.33-rc8
version) from Kernel:HEAD, all running into that issue, no matter if the
related drm-all-kmp-* package from home:jobermayer is installed or not (I'm
trying those to get nouveau graphics).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install kernel from after the switch to gcc 4.5
2. Reboot

Actual Results:
kernel panic right on boot

Expected Results:
start up the system

Thankfully I found kernel-default-2.6.33-3.1.i586.rpm compiled on Feb 13 still
in the Factory repo, this one runs well with or without the DRM module for
nouveau installed.

With the bad kernels, I need to remove the vga= parameter from the boot line to
even be able to see the panic output, if I leave it in there, I just get a
black screen.

As the 2.6.33-3.1 and 2.6.33-3.3 are both -rc7 kernels that are not much apart,
but the switch from gcc 4.4 to 4.5 was probably in between, I feel like that
could be the actual dealbreaker here - possibly with reiserfs, but maybe some
other driver.

With the slightly older kernel, the whole system runs completely fine, it's
only that one package I changed to get it up and running.
