I have my menu setup to boot to which ever kernel I wish to test. I have them all installed. I have been fighting tracing the vmware-install.pl file trying to figure out why things did not work. I could boot into desktop and everything worked fine. The new build scripts worked. I booted into default and I cound not make the same patches and scripts work. Finally I decided to find out what uname was giving me and found that uname allways gave wrong results. I have done the same thing now on 4 machines all with the same results. uname -a default Linux suse104 2.6.31.5-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-12-15 23:55:40 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux desktop Linux suse104 2.6.31.8-0.1-desktop #1 SMP 2009-12-15 23:55:40 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # more /var/log/boot.msg klogd 1.4.1, log source = ksyslog started. <6>[ 0.000000] Initializing cgroup subsys cpuset <6>[ 0.000000] Initializing cgroup subsys cpu <5>[ 0.000000] Linux version 2.6.31.8-0.1-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc vers ion 4.4.1 [gcc-4_4-branch revision 150839] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2009-12-15 23:5 5:40 +0100 Every thing I have checked show I am running l /boot/ -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3813376 2009-12-18 02:38 vmlinuz-2.6.31.8-0.1-debug -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4160640 2009-12-18 02:37 vmlinuz-2.6.31.8-0.1-default -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4104800 2009-12-18 02:22 vmlinuz-2.6.31.8-0.1-desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4305472 2009-12-18 02:45 vmlinuz-2.6.31.8-0.1-trace -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3641024 2009-12-18 02:34 vmlinuz-2.6.31.8-0.1-vanilla -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3376899 2009-12-18 02:32 vmlinuz-2.6.31.8-0.1-xen how is uname getting the wrong information. Duplicated on 4 machines with the same nehavior. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot default instead of desktop. 2. 3. Actual Results: just use uname on a default system. All machines were done using the X86_64 DVD. Expected Results: booted desktop uname displayed all the correct information. Booted default and uname does not give correct information on version that is running. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
