Ok, I attempted to do this:
I downloaded kernel-default-2.6.27.42-0.1.1.x86_64.rpm and
kernel-default-base-2.6.27.42-0.1.1.x86_64.rpm from
http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.1/rpm/x86_64/.
Then installed with: sudo rpm -ivh kernel-default-*.rpm --force
I will attach the console output from this operation, there seem to be some
error messages about missing ext4 modules.
Then I downloaded
alsa-driver-kmp-default-1.0.22.1.20100115_2.6.27.42_0.1-1.1.x86_64.rpm from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio:/KMP/openSUSE_11...
and installed it.
On reboot I chose the newly installed 2.6.27.42 kernel, but during boot the
splash screen goes away and there is an error message which I believe has
something to do with ext4 that is not supported by the 11.1 kernel.
