My Computer on '/ ext3' shows 248 MB free. I move about 400 MB from '/usr/local' and other places to Trash and empty Trash on desktop and use 'File Manager - Super User Mode' to delete the files from 'Places Trash'. The net result is My Computer on '/ ext3' shows 46 MB free for a large net loss instead of a gain. df shows: smigo@elhost:~/Desktop> df / Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda6 8356836 7885044 47280 100% / which seems to be consistent with the My Computer result.
