As you already said such an update would introduce it's own set of issues. This even without any beta tests. Also I don't understand why you want to update all X libraries just to fix the issue in libXext. In case you didn't notice it yet. openSUSE is a community project. Beginning with openSUSE 11.2 everybody can request and prepare a package update (if approved), so feel free to improve the situation.
