Hi Jiri,
thanks for your investigation.
I've been stressed by this wireless card since I got this T60 laptop about 2,5
years ago. (I had a Ralink card before which was even worse)
Before 11.1 (I had 10.3 and 11.0 on this machine) I had to use self compiled
drivers with the card. First madwifi and later the ath5k from compat-wireless.
With madwifi there have been quite a lot of disconnects and NMIs with the card
failing to reconnect after about an hour or so and denying to work again until
rebooted or went through an suspend/resume cycle. The ath5k was very buggy at
the beginning, too but has been getting better and better with the time.
On openSUSE 11.1, with the integrated ath9k, I initially had more or less the
same problems like now. Somewhen I decided to use the
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_11.1/
repository to check if a new kernel fixes it. I had varying experiences
throughout different upgrades. But the 2.6.31 series has been quite stable with
the card (at least after I disabled power management through 'iwconfig wlan0
power off'). But with openSUSE 11.2 (current official Kernel
2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop) I have more or less the same problems like on 11.1 again.
May it be that there is some special patch on the stable 11.2 kernel that has
not been in the HEAD repo for 11.1 and that could be causing this issue?
By the way: Why isn't there a Kernel:/HEAD repo for 11.2 (yet) ?
Best,
Steffen
