Re Comment #8: I don't know what you have in that ..., but issue61 is unrelated
to Xft AFAICS (it's about Windows), and issues 597 and 598 are my todo list,
not based on user reports. Progress is being made, but there's no perceived
pressure from users on xemacs-beta, who generally prefer M-x set-face-font to
the menus.

The attached patch #331090 should fix the backtrace above, but since I can't
reproduce the problem as such, I don't know whether it will help with the
underlying problem (lack of X bitmap fonts or a font server, I am guessing).

(I came to this bug from #557739 and our issue636, which I've closed upstream
as it doesn't seem to be an XEmacs bug that we can fix, but rather a problem in
the openSUSE distribution. You're welcome to ask for help and/or direct users
to xemacs-beta@xxxxxxxxxx, of course, but we can't do anything about openSUSE
RPMs.)
