--- Comment #51 from andreas bittner 2009-11-24 11:31:29 UTC ---
back on the m3a78-em system (radeon hd 3200), some thing i dont understand.
i have deleted the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file(s).
i am in runlevel 3, opensuse 11, with the
xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.3.0_20091106_619706-2.2
i am at alt+f3 screen. and there i do
X -logverbose 7
it almost immediately terminates back to commandline, telling me that it cannot
run in framebuffer mode. please specify busids etc......
as i was writing before, i was wondering how this is going to work when the
xorg.conf is missing completely.
i can supply the generated Xorg.0.log in these circumstances, and to my
understanding it never loads the radeonhd driver, but only fiddles through some
(older? other projects?) ati and radeon (without the hd at the end) drivers,
but fails.
this happens no matter if i have connected the mainboar directly via vga cable
or through the kvm switch, and also it doesnt help when going through the kvm
switch no matter if the kvm switchport was being active during bios/POST and
boot time all the time or only switching there from inside the running suse
system.
so i am trying to narrow down this bug, but the situation when the xorg.conf
file is missing, doesnt really make sense to me.
additionally i was also running sax2 during these empty xorg.conf situations
and re-generatd the xorg.conf file that way, to run X -logverbose to be able to
find radeonhd log lines inside the Xorg.0.log file.
it would kinda help if i could enfoce sax2 also to logverbose mode, or force
the whole system also during booting/startups to logverbose mode, so that the
whole xdm/kdm stuff gets logged as well in verbose mode.
if anybody would be posting if there was a way to have a systemwide permanent
logverbose?
thanks and regards.
