http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557554 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557554#c0 Summary: Rescue system will not start without a primary drive at system POST Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sebt@fz25.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en-GB) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.10 When starting the openSUSE 11.2 DVD (i586 or x86_64), the system reboots immediately after the "Loading Linux Kernel %" progressbar if there is no primary drive present during POST/BIOS drive detection. This is also the case if an external USB hard drive is connected, or a USB stick, Live USB stick, etc. AFTER hardware POST/BIOS drive detection: if USB drives are connected before switch-on (ie. pre-POST), rescue system starts as expected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Using Lenovo T61, remove internal hard drive and ensure no other drives are connected. 2. Boot the openSUSE 11.2 DVD (586 or x86_64). At the point the GRUB menu appears, USB sticks, USB hard drives etc. can be inserted. 3. Start "rescue system" option from grub Actual Results: "Loading Linux Kernel" progressbar appears and gets to 100%. System reboots Expected Results: After "Loading Linux Kernel", openSUSE splashscreen and normal rescue system startup. openSUSE 11.1 does not exhibit the above behaviour, ie. 11.1 rescue system starts correctly irrespective of drives connected/disconnected at switch-on/POST. Therefore this issue is new in 11.2, and may be related to the newer kernels. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
