OK. I removed xorg.conf and restarted without the external monitor attached It
continues to exhibit the same problem.
One thing to note however, iş that booting with the external monitor attached,
but without an xorg.conf present gives the following information:

You will notice that 1280x800 is not listed as an available mode on the
external display which means that my display sizes are uneven, however when I
tell sax2 to use 1280x800 on the external display it works correctly..
