http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=548151 Summary: no 32bit IO on 11.2 anymore Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 8 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: chuller@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Component Test Description: I upgraded my workstation to 11.2 M8 and wondered about the tremendous speed loss compared to 11.1. It seems I now discovered the reason for that, as it looks like 32bit IO is disabled and can't be enabled for my local hard disc: hdparm -c /dev/sda /dev/sda: IO_support = 0 (default) trying to turn it on seems not to work: hdparm -c 3 /dev/sda /dev/sda: setting 32-bit IO_support flag to 3 HDIO_SET_32BIT failed: Invalid argument IO_support = 0 (default) The problem could be reproduced on a second machine that got 11.2 M8 installed from scratch. Howto repeat: Try to turn on 32bit IO for opensuse 11.2 Comment: I also tried sdparm as I considered that hdparm might not work for sata discs but found no equivalent option for sdparm. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
