My GeForce 7600 GS is supported by nv driver, which was earlier always used by
livecd. After installing nvidia's blob driver, everything goes back to normal
(besides bootsplash and grub, because my framebuffer allows only 4:3
resolutions).
I've got hwinfo --all from livecd and hope that part below is exactly what
--gfxcard would give.

PS: Can you tell if it's possible to omit the restriction given by nvidia's
hardware and use fullhd 16:9 resolution for grub and bootsplash and/or splashy?
vbetest confirms there's no widescreen res for fbuffer, but there's always a
hope.
PS2: xorg.conf says it tried using fullhd resolution: the only modeline in
Modes section is "Modeline "1920x1080" 148 1920 2008 2052 2200 1080 1084 1089
1125" but something strange appears earlier in Monitor: "Option "PreferredMode"
"768x576".
