in my case, most flash apps are affected, including youtube.
i created a clean user account. in that, i can reproduce the problem with
desktop effect on, but can't reproduce it with desktop effects turned off.
on my laptop with clean install M8, i can also reproduce it with effects on and
not with effects off.
as my regular user, i can reproduce it most of the time with video on this
page:

(after this video fails, youtube reliably fails too. before that youtube
sometimes works)
it is reproducible with desktop effects on or off.
i removed ~/.mozilla and still can reproduce it, still doesn't depend on
desktop effects.
tried killing pulse and various other apps, didn't help.
this is M8 with yesterday's "zypper dup" updates. two different machines, one
has a binary nvidia driver, other has i965 (or whatever is the intel driver
called). both are desktop-effects capable.
