The package will be pushed to Factory soon. As a workaround you can get the newer gtk2 from the GNOME:Factory repository.
so my conclusion/assumption was correct that package gtk2 is the source of the problem?
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=593249 contains the information from the upstream bug tracker. So in short to answer the question: yes, it is gtk2 issue.
