To test Sonar on SLED11 one needs to install gtk2-metatheme-sonar from Factory.
But note that this package won't fully work with the GTK+ on SLED11, in fact no
menu separators show up in native GTK+ applications with Sonar selected...
In openSUSE 11.2 the Sonar package works correctly, and comparing the menus in
for instance gnome-terminal on openSUSE11.2 when using Sonar to the ones in OOo
with the patch above on SLED11 when using Sonar, they look "close enough".
But there might well be some other theme where the hacky patch doesn't work
well enough. I am not really sure I understand fully how GTK+'s menu separators
actually are drawn... Is it so that there are no menu separator colours as such
that the theme would set, but instead the separator is just formed as the
shadow or outline of a zero-height menu entry, or something? Or can a theme
engine totally take control of the painting of menu separators, if it wants?
