Hi,
yesterday I had the same problem: Update of kernel 2.6.27.21-0.1-default to
2.6.27.23-0.1-default destroyed my sound on the Laptop (Acer Travelmate 7730).
Neither downgrade of pulseaudio (which I updated at the same time from 9.12 to
9.14) nor update of alsa drivers or change of mute/unmute switches (kmix,
alsamix) could reactivate sound. I did the previous steps due to some linux
forum suggestions of similar problems.
A downgrade back to the old kernel brought the system back to normal (at least
as far as I checked; at least sound is as it was before).
I got, however, a different sound device and different codecs as in the
description of the bug:
Device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
Codec: Realtek ALC268
I attached my outputs of the alsa-info.sh for both kernels. The higher kernel
showed the pulseaudio server not running. I could not get it running anyway. As
for the lower kernel it is running without efforts.
Thanks for considering this comment and my previously attached files!
