No. I'm haven't been sure, I meant this in terms of the sound systems, not ALSA
in particular.

According to your hints, I removed the ALSA kernel module and restored to ALSA
and now I get kmix mute, too, after KDE logon.

PulseAudio is on 0.9.14 from the lastest Gnome 2.26 STABLE respotitory for
OpenSUSE 11.1.

So it seems you are right with the PulseAudio hint.
Can you post here some relevant bugtracker issues for me to watch them, please?
