The network card problem can be fixed by shutting down the power entirely
(pulling the cable). Must be some joint bug related to SuSE's hardware
detection and this new gigabyte motherboard. Ubuntu's live CD does not have
this problem.
The raid problem looks like being related to trying to mount file systems,
which removes both drives from the array. Ubuntu does the same with its live CD
if I mount the physical HDDs. Maybe ntfs-3g writes something on the HDDs? Maybe
an option for not mounting NTFS drives or mounting read-only could help? SuSE
has dmraid (which can detect my arrays properly), but I could find no option
during install for *not* trying to mount the HDDs. When I get to a command line
to issue "dmraid -s", my raid is already reported broken (done during the boot
process), although none of the HDDs are mounted. Booting log complains about
aborted RAID mounting, and says that only one member of an array was found.
