Greg? Why do you think this is a user space problem located in the boot
scripts? If umount can not create a lock file on the static disk
because there was a external drive unplugged this could be also
be a kernel related problem ... couldn't it? Maybe the order of
the device are changed and/or we see a problem in the module dm-mod
aka device-mapper. Nevertheless during using the devices the IDs
of the disk should not change on the fly even if an external disk
becomes unplugged.
Maciej? Do you use the device mapper for your root disk ... that is that
root_dm=1 is within the kernels command line, just list it with
cat /proc/cmdline
Xin? What the daemon /sbin/dmeventd is for? I've not found any manual
page nor any boot script using this service.
