Updating arbitrary user preferences from one version to another has to be the
hardest part of the upgrade process (I just today corrected a keyboard
preference which KDE failed to correctly propagate after my 11.0 -> 11.1
upgrade). The quickest solution to your user's problem is to remove his gnome
configuration files and reconfigure his desktop from scratch on 11.1 -- backing
them up first just in case of course. If his preferences then generate the
same problem you have a better case for a bug in X (or gnome). But in the
absence of an open source X server driver with the same bug I suspect that
openSUSE would be justified in having you direct your bug to Nvidia since they
no longer track closed source driver bugs.
Do you have any additional evidence that the bug may exist in the open source X
code which openSUSE is responsible for?
