It works for me.
You wrote "Install new SUSE 11.1" so that the product entry
for this bug must be "openSUSE 11.1" (and not "openSUSE 11.0").
Do not confuse "saned" to access a remote scanner
connected to another host in the network with
a scanner that has a network interface
so it is directly accessible in the network.
It is recommended to run as root "hp-setup" to setup
HP network printers and scanners.
See the help text in the YaST scanner setup:
------------------------------------------------------------------
A normal USB scanner should be detected automatically.
By default only those USB scanners are shown
for which the UDB vendor and product IDs are known.
..
For HP all-in-one devices you may have to run "hp-setup"
via "Other" and "Run hp-setup" before you can
configure the scanner unit with this tool.
..
Network scanners cannot be configured with this tool
except for HP all-in-one devices.
Network scanners must be configured manually.
A network scanner is a scanner that has a network interface
so it is directly accessible in the network.
In contrast, scanning via network means accessing a remote scanner
connected to another host in the network.
To set up the scanner unit in a HP all-in-one device
which is connected via a built-in network interface,
you may have to run "hp-setup" via "Other"
and "Run hp-setup" before it works to configure
the scanner unit with this tool using "Add".
------------------------------------------------------------------
Additionally you may have a look at bug #470959
for another example (there it is a USB device) where
"Something seems to be somehow a bit messed up sometimes!"
