I did a fresh openSUSE 11.1 installation now in simplified
Chinese choosing Gnome (not the Live CD, a regular installation
from DVD1). I could *not* reproduce this problem,
Compose with the default Compose key (Shift_R+Ctrl_R) works fine
for me both in xterm and emacs.

(By the way, it doesn’t seem to matter which Shift key is used,
both Shift_L+Ctrl_R Shift_R+Ctrl_R work. I do have to press the
Shift key first though, pressing the Ctrl_R key first does not work).
