Additionally when attempt to save an alien ( Microsoft excel ) document that
has been modified you already get a nag dialog saying

"This document may contain formanting and content than cannot be saved in
Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP file format, do you want to save the document in
this format anyway" etc.

Hmm, I may have turned this off some time ago, as saving of the contents
and formatting works in most (simple) cases.

IIRC there used to be an additional message that specifically related to the
issure regarding saving Macros, maybe that could be resurrected or perhaps it
is a bug that it doesn't additionally get displayed

That would be good. The message above says "may" and if we know "it will",
we should tell it to the user. Ideally by the time he tries to "save"
the changes in the editor (or open it read only right away).
