Fixing them manually in system settings is possible, but very inefficient. Example: x-ms-wmv: Looking in Application Preference Order there are the same applications sometimes three or four times, for instance Amarok, MPlayer, DragonPlayer and so on. This cannot be fixed by pressing Remove, because Apply let them reappear in the list as before. The only workaround is to do Edit on each application preference order entry and explicitely remove double entries in Supported File Types + pressing OK. Each time I remove all double Supported File Type one and only one entry in Application Preference Order dissappears automatically, but this has to be done for EACH application preference order entry. The main problem seems to be that many applications get the same supported file types more times redundantly, all other queries based on that don't deliver unique results. One example see attachments.
