Yep I finally found it after MANY frustrating hours of hunting! The Audigy
Analog/Digital Output Jack control has a "separate" mute toggle that is NOT
tied to the master mute toggle! I found it in the AlsaMixer, not in KMix but I
now see that in KMix there is a toggle control for this jack as well, on a
separate tab page, not with the main mixer controls.... Interestingly, at
first, toggling the AlsaMixer mute control produced distorted sound, (under
both Windows and Linux, I have a dual boot system) and it was not until I
rebooted to Windows XP and reinstalled the sound driver there, that the sound
finally cleared up (for both Windows apps as well as Linux apps) So not only is
ALSA screwed up but my guess is something within YaST or Alsaconfig screwed up
some of the firmware on the card as well? Or perhaps some register did not get
initialized properly?

I dunno, but something is definitely broken, for certain the Audigy
Analog/Digital Output Jack control is! Marc..
