Out of curiosity, why don't the Cairo upstream think Glitz backend is ready,
and doesn't enabling it mean it gets more face time with people to find
problems, find bugs, fix problems and fix bugs (rather than simply removing it
so nobody can see if it might work reliably)?

If the glitz backend + X11 backend + other backends are compiled in anyway, how
would one select which is used by default or used in any case programmatically?
Would there be a way to build Cairo with the backend and "blacklist" glitz such
that it could be enabled by enterprising users?
