https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457809 Summary: TightVNC server does not serve a KDE4 Desktop to an openSUSE 11.0 Client Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: swerdna@opensuse-forums.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User I have TightVNC installed. It works fine serving Gnome and KDE3.x Desktops. But if I try to serve a KDE4 desktop i just get a black or gray page in the TightVNC viewer on an openSUSE client. I've tried two different computers as servers and two different computers as clients with no difference. This server failure on KDE4 occurs in openSUSE 11.0 and 11.1RC1 An example from openSUSE 11.1 RC1: KDE4 is the only Desktop Environment installed. Hardware accelleration is turned off in Sax2 rpm -qa | grep vnc shows these packages: tightvnc-1.3.9-80.38 and xorg-x11-Xvnc-7.4-16.2 These are the contents of the configuration file xstartup at location $HOME/.vnc/xstartup: #!/bin/sh #xrdb $HOME/.Xresources #xsetroot -solid grey #xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" & #twm & /usr/bin/kde4 The log file in $HOME/.vnc is deleted so a fresh session can be recorded. I start the server with command "vncserver" and have this dialogue: john@linux-xxke:~> vncserver New 'X' desktop is linux-xxke:1 Starting applications specified in /home/john/.vnc/xstartup Log file is /home/john/.vnc/linux-xxke:1.log john@linux-xxke:~> On the client (running openSUSE 11.0) I start the TightVNC viewer with this command: vncviewer 192.168.1.5:1 After successfully completeing the password dialogue, a view screen opens showin only a gray background. I disconnect the client. Here is the complete session log from the server log in directory $HOME/.vnc: 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Xvnc version X.org/xf4vnc custom version 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Copyright (C) 2001-2004 Alan Hourihane. 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Copyright (C) 2000-2004 Constantin Kaplinsky 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Copyright (C) 1999 AT&T Laboratories Cambridge 10/12/2008 08:19:20 All Rights Reserved. 10/12/2008 08:19:20 See http://www.tightvnc.com/ for information on TightVNC 10/12/2008 08:19:20 See http://xf4vnc.sf.net for xf4vnc-specific information 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Desktop name 'X' (linux-xxke:1) 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Protocol versions supported: 3.7, 3.3 10/12/2008 08:19:20 RGB format 5 6 5 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Listening for VNC connections on TCP port 5901 10/12/2008 08:19:20 Listening for HTTP connections on TCP port 5801 10/12/2008 08:19:20 URL http://linux-xxke:5801 Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/local, removing from list!
