https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=441442 Summary: GRUB hangs on MacBook Pro rev 3 (Santa Rosa intel 965PM/GM chipset) Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta4 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: d.pashov@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Community User PROBLEM: If I wait the default timeout 8s the machine will boot the default entry but it will hang if I press any button, for example if I want to select different entry or if I want to go to the command prompt. This is really irritating since I have openSUSE 11.0 which I use daily and 11.1 b4/factory for testing. The problem is not new since it was pretty much the same with openSUSE 11.0's GRUB but I didn't open a bug for some reason. CONDITIONS: The intel macs use EFI instead of bios but provide a bios emulation for booting "legacy" bootloaders. My hard disk is partitioned with MBR partition table ONLY, no GPT. I have a boot partition sda1 (200MB ext2 formatted) , extended partition sda2 which contains the root sda5 and the home sda6.The rest of the primary partitions sda3 and sda4 have other uses. I tried installing GRUB nn the MBR and on the boot partition but nothing changed and GRUB was still locking up the computer. I had been using the mixed GUID/MBR partition table previously with openSUSE 11.0. GRUB was installed on the boot partition then and I had the same problem, again I am sorry I didn't report it. WORKAROUND: My workaround is to install the bootsectors (stage 1.5 and/or 2) from Fedora's 8/9/10 live cd, their GRUB works just fine in MBR and GUID/MBR partition styles. I can test further so please contact me if you think I can help in any way.
