--- Comment #34 from Carlos Robinson
Just a workaround I mentioned in my corresponding SR: Start YaST from gui once, enter root password and possibly quit YaST
Yes, YaST now works from the GUI.
Then I next could use su and start applications from the terminal. This worked for me until next logout/logon.
No, this doesn't work for me. I can not start any graphical app as root from the terminal, if I do "su -", but it works if I do "su". But not being able to do "su -" means that the path is incorrect, it is the user path, not root's path. minas-morgul:~ # gedit No protocol specified (gedit:29677): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0 minas-morgul:~ # It is also working now if I do ssh - but I have to try after I log out and in again. Wow! Another problem: ssh as root hangs on logout from ssh. I had to kill the client. (In reply to comment #33 from Hans Petter Jansson)
It shouldn't stop working after you re-login. What do the latest entries in your gdm and libgnomesu changelogs say?
(e.g. rpm -q --changelog gdm | head -10) minas-morgul:~ # rpm -q --changelog gdm | head -10 * Thu Oct 16 2008 hpj@novell.com - Update gdm-domain-logon.patch, removing some dead code and a signal callback that is no longer being used. * Thu Oct 09 2008 hpj@novell.com - Replace gdm-2.23.92-host-wild.patch with gdm-xauthlocalhostname.patch. The new patch sets the XAUTHLOCALHOSTNAME env var instead of setting the cookie's family to FamilyWild. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
