Stefan, since this is the only place that references the 177.80 driver, I'm
wondering if you have any advice for the following:
I took the build system, and performed my own build using rpmbuild -ba for both
of the .spec files. They compiled and installed successfully, however after
being installed, insmod '{kernel library path}/updates/nvidia.ko' does not work
saying 'device not found'
The perplexing part about this is that a manual build of 177.80 (the same .pkg
that is used to build the rpm) compiles and insmod works fine.
Since there is such little documentation on the rpm update, here is what I did:
cd ~
osc checkout X11:Drivers:Video/nvidia-gfxG02
su -
cd /home/(user)/X11:Drivers:Video/nvidia-gfxG02
cp * /usr/src/packages/SOURCES
cd /usr/src/packages/SOURCES
rpmbuild -ba nvidia-gfxG02.spec
rpmbuild -ba x11-video-nvidiaG02.spec
rpm -e (Existing nvidiaG01-kmp and x11-video-nvidiaG01 rpms)
rpm -Uvh nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-default-177.80_2.6.25.18_0.2-2
x11-video-nvidiaG02-177.80-2
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.25.18-0.2-default/updates/nvidia.ko
**FATAL: Error inserting nvidia
(/lib/modules/2.6.25.18-0.2-default/updates/nvidia.ko): No such device
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.80-pkg1.run -x
cd NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.80-pkg1/usr/src/nv
make module
insmod nvidia.ko
**no errors, appears to work*
lsmod | grep nvidia --> shows up.
There are two major reasons why I need the rpm
1) Testing nvidia 9400GT video cards
2) Using kiwi-ltsp, which basically requires the nvidia drivers to be packaged
up. (there is a workaround, but it is a big pain)
Hopefully you'll release rpms for 11.0. I'm thinking of just encapsulating the
working nvidia.ko file within a new rpm, but that feels hackish.
