I don't see how ide-pci-generic can cause things like that on ICH machines. Maybe something funny going on with the BIOS. Whether the 'special' port (w/ 4726 attached) is used or not can make quite some differences tho. I'm closing this bug as INVALID for now. Feel free to re-open when you find out something.
