Now I have also tried to run an 11.0 Update installation right over the working
10.3. But the same proglem(s) occured again. During the installation, the
update server configuration was unsuccessful (I guess no Internet connection
was established).
Just after login, I was able a short time to ping to an external IP address and
got response. I was also able to ping local IP addresses successful, but no
hostnames.
Took a look at the the network card setup in YaST. It contained correct local
host name, IP address and default gateway IP address. But there were no IPs for
DNSs. While entering these IP addresses, the system froze hard again.
This happened several times a short time after each cold boot and login. I did
look in /etc/resolv.conf, which was emty generated by the Network Manager.
What I wonder now is if openSUSE 11 already contains the latest Broadcom tg3
Linux Driver?
The latest tg3 driver v. 3.85l date 05/23/08 is available in source at
http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/driver-sla.php?driver=570x-Linu...
The attached Readme.txt for this driver tells:
"This file describes the tg3 Linux driver for the Broadcom NetXtreme
10/100/1000 Mbps PCI/PCI-X/PCI Express Ethernet Network Controllers.
The latest driver is in the latest 2.6 Linux kernel. It can also be
downloaded from http://www.broadcom.com as a source package, but is
generally not necessary to do so if you are using the latest 2.6
upstream kernel from http://www.kernel.org or one of the latest
vendor kernels from Red Hat, SuSE, or others."
