I disagree -- the ClientID is used by most DSL routers to assign a stable IP
address to the different ethernet cards requesting addresses. This IP address
is used to configure the virtual server function in the router (as well as
other functions in a LAN). The new DUID used by default instead of using the
MAC address by default causes the routers to assign different IP addresses to
11.0 than are assigned for all previous openSUSE releases (as well as Win-XP,
ubuntu 8.04 and Fedora Core 9.0). There should at the very least be a method
to allow easier configuration to use the old default of using the MAC address.
(dhclient on 11.0 still uses the MAC address and gets the same IP address for
the card as all the other OS releases).
Setting the DHCLIENT_CLIENT_ID manually using a text editor is good enough for
me, but I believe you should be aware that the DUID feature is going to cause
surprises for many of your other users, so you should at the very least warn
them in the release notes. (I have noticed two or three bugs involving dhcpcd
which could be caused by this problem BTW).
