I checked that the German specific tar balls of Acroread
downloadable from
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/8.x/8.1.2/deu/AdobeReader_deu-8.12-1.i486.tar.bz2
contain some files which seem to be related to German spell checking,
for example:
Adobe/Reader8/Reader/intellinux/sidecars/Spelling.DEU
And if one installs this German specific version of acroread with the
Adobe INSTALL script, a German spellchecking dictionary can be found
in the menus (I didn’t check whether it actually works).
But
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/8.x/8.1.2/deu/AdobeReader_deu-8.12-1.i486.tar.bz2
is another 48 Megabyte big tarball. I.e. creating
a special acroread_de.rpm package which conflicts with the
“regular” English acroread.rpm package makes no sense.
We already have this for Japanese (there is a acroread_ja.rpm in
openSUSE) and we want to get rid of this, not introduce more
special acroread package for each language.
There are currently 15 language specific versions of acroread
downloadable from
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/8.x/8.1.2/
It is just nonsense to have 15 rpm packages each around 50 Megabytes
in size which mutually conflict in our distribution.
So the only reasonable solution in my opinion is to
have a basic acroread.rpm supporting only English
with addon rpms containing fonts, translations, spell checkers, ...
for other languages.
Therefore I’ll close this bug as a duplicate of bug #379503.
