We want this explicitness, so that it's immediately clear what compiler the person was using, when he submits a bug report.
But this is only for sources, right, and this is problem of the authors -- KDE, X11, Gnome, bash, etc. and only if you build packages by yourself. I am concerned, because the easiness of working compilers in Windows environment (I don't use it, but I know it) comparing to Linux -- the easiest choice to upgrade compiler is to upgrade whole system. This does not look like advantage. Btw.
