Yes, there is no gcc-4.3 package (on 10.3) that would switch the main compiler
to something else. That is by design, we want to ensure that the compiler you
get by calling "gcc" is exactly the compiler that we declared the system
compiler for the distro at hand. We won't change this.
Using a compiler different from the system compiler is still easy, but has to
be requested explicitely, usually by doing 'CC=gcc-4.3 ./configure ...'.
We want this explicitness, so that it's immediately clear what compiler
the person was using, when he submits a bug report.
I understand what you want, but that conflicts with our choice, so won't
be implemented, sorry.
