https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=372876 Summary: Proposal: YaST2 bootloader should have a "create a sensible GRUB config from scratch" option Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: one_way@online.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Especially when using factory, my GRUB settings sometimes get messed up and aren't getting recovered either by a new kernel install nor by a usage of "yast2 bootloader", especially as this YaST2 module doesn't give any hints on how to do a sensible configuration for non-experts. My proposal: Give YaST's bootloader module an option like "trash the current grub config, analyse the user's system and propose a sensible default, as if this was a fresh install of openSUSE". This default would include not only booting the current openSUSE installation with a correctly set up initrd, but also e.g. setting a video mode for the graphical splash screen and also including other OSes in the configuration. This would also help non-experts, who have to use this YaST module e.g. because Windows messed around with their boot sector and so on. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
