Okay, so the locking up driver is pata_via and the you're on VIA 82C586_1 with
8237 as isa bridge. The reason why upgrading from SL102 and kubuntu work is
because they use IDE driver instead of the libata one.
pata_via doesn't usually lock up the whole machine. Can you please post the
result of "hdparm -I /dev/hda" and boot log of SL103 installation media? You
can get boot log from SL103 installation media by doing the following.
1. Boot SL103 installation media. Wait for the installation system to load.
2. Switch to console 9 (ctrl-alt-f9).
3. Plug in a usb stick and mount it under /mnt. "mount /dev/sdXy /mnt" where X
and y are device and partition indexes for the usb stick. If you have only one
hdd on the machine, it will usually be /dev/sdb1.
4. cp /var/log/boot.msg /mnt; dmesg > /mnt/dmesg.log; umount /mnt
5. post the logs on the usb stick.
Thanks.
