There's an option in nvidia-settings. If you click on the entry for your display on the left, e.g. DFP-0, there'll be a button on the right side that says "Acquire EDID ..."
This did the trick. I acquired the EDID data and specified it in the xorg.conf as explained in http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/169.12/README/appendix-b.... and now everything works fine. I suspected the wrong EDID right from the beginning as the two xorg.0.logs attached with the first post of this report shows it clearly. However, I didn't know how to save the edid data to file. So how are we going to go further now? To find out why current driver reports wrong EDID for the same hardware while 100.14.19 works ok. If you need something else, please let me know.
