Wouldn't it be weirder to have a progress bar that rolls backwards?
In yast-qt, they have gone with a widget that looks differently than an unsual
progress bar, so they have more room to define their behavior.
I think what you're experiencing is cognitive dissonance from expecting a
yast-qt like widget. ;)
Of course, a vertical progress bar is unusual. And we can change the progress
direction, so that it increments top-to-down, instead of the current
down-to-top flow, if you prefer.
Something to notice is that, while unusual, it can happen that the progress bar
doesn't step continually. Since each bar represents a repository, it can happen
that the dependencies doesn't allow the repository-to-repository order to be
followed...
