https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=358401 Summary: After last online update booting fails Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: joe.nemeth@cpluscsystems.axelero.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=192966) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=192966) directory listing of /boot lilo is installed into the partition boot sector and booting is done through the Windows boot.ini using a copy of the boot sector. After the last update (Feb 3rd) the kernel is loaded, "BIOS data check successful" is displayed, the screen is cleared after about 1 sec and then.... nothing! I am attaching the listing of the contents of the /boot directory. (Listing is in MS DOS format as the Linux file system is accessible from Windows by the EXT2IFS file system driver.) It seems that the last update only replaced the initrd files. I have not checked whether there was a change in the boot sector but booting behaved identically with the new boot sector as well. I also noticed that the lilo.conf file has been replaced with one that lists the xen image before the default one. Originally I configured lilo to be silent and start loading immediately. I have also run the live version and it seems that otherwise the system remained intact. Perhaps getting the initrd versions that were in effect at the time of the previous update (Jan 27th) would remedy the situation. Reinstalling everything would cause intolerable delay in my work so, please, I need quick help!
