https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=344403 Summary: Build Service Emulators Repo - Mupen64 is fork version - Should be different name than official one in home:/wberrier Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: eckhaus1@comcast.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Hey, I hope this is the proper place for this. The Build Services Emulators/ repo has nicely added a new release forked from the N64 emulator Mupen64. However, users who have that repo active and/or the repo at home:/wberrier which has the official Mupen64 on it will automatically get the forked version since it is named the same and has a higher version number. I discussed this with the fellow on the official Mupen64 forum and he knew nothing about the package being made available, although happy about it and hopeful that whoever was responsible for making the OpenSUSE package would also keep up with his upgrades as he releases them. He did agree that this naming convention used was not right or good. He said he was always careful to name his packages slightly differently than just Mupen64, like Mupen64-Rice-Video or something as he is simply contributing this stuff on his own and certainly doesn't want to interfere with Hacktarux (spelling ? sorry!) and his official version of Mupen64. Hopefully we can get the package maintainer and contributer of this to go over to the forum, see how Richard names these forks, and apply that to the naming of the OpenSUSE packages so that a user will be aware of this being an experimental version of Mupen64. Perhaps a comment in the notes can tell a user of the location in the wberrier repo of the official version, and even that if he wishes he could take the Rice Video plugin from this fork and drop it into the official Mupen64 if it is desired to test just the improvements to the plugin. As of now, a user will just get the fork as an update if the Emulators repo is active. That's not good. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
