The only way to start the laptop again was with Failsafe
This is because acpi=off is passed and the acpi driver for the sony hid SNY6001
device is not loaded.

Another possibility is to put the Sony_laptop module on the Blacklist
This should be your preferred workaround until it's fixed.

Hmm, it's a bit difficult to reproduce what exactly happened.
I could try to find the exact kernel you used and try to find the command
issued at:

Do you remember a bit more about the error (should be at the beginning of the
panic/oops), maybe a divison through zero, NULL pointer dereference, ...

Maybe Mattia already knows about this one?
If yes, I can point you to an already compiled 2.6.24-rcX kernel to try whether
it's already fixed for you...
