Interestingly enough ACPI appeared to be working in the 64-bit version.
Very interesting. I expect you can skip the noapic parameter then.

acpi=off is not an option on most modern machines, it's not worth finding a
workaround for a workaround.
these boot paramaters:
CPUFREQ=off nohz processor.max_cstate=1
So that we get a picture what could be the cause of the trouble.
Ahh, if IIRC there was an issue with lapic timer on i386, the machines should
get automatically blacklisted, but maybe this boot param helps?:
nolapic_timer
