https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=305742 Summary: slow write throughput to external usb2 harddrive Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jwerinwa@comcast.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other Created an attachment (id=160535) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=160535) Output of: YaST > Miscellaneous > Post a Support Query Using an external USB2 harddrive (Seagate 80G in no-name enclosure), I get really poor performance on writes (in kBs!). I am essentially using 'dd' to wipe the external disk, and here is an example of what I am seeing: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc bs=4096 oflag=direct, sync count=20 ... 81920 bytes (82 kB) copied, 31.7401 s, 2.6 kB/s in looking at 'dmesg' output, I see a lot of the following message usb 2-6: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11 The host system is a dual-core Turian TL60 HP dv9000 laptop and I am attaching the /var/log/support.txt. Impact: Write performance this slow makes it impractical to use the USB2 drive for backups.
